Harley Wide Glide Front End Ordered For The VW Trike

May 11th, 2009 | Posted by Justin Kaiser | Category: Frame Tech, Front End Tech | Comments

After some conversation with my mentor Bud, I’ve decided to make the major purchase decision of a front end for the build…

I’d been watching these on e-bay for quite some time. One of the vendors that kept coming up was Demon’s Cycle. For a total cost of $442 with Free FedEx shipping I’ve picked up a Chrome Billet Smooth Front End 2″ Over for Harley Wide Glide…

Here’s the fork and wheel. I’ll replace the tire and paint the wheel spokes. This is in very good shape without any visible rust. I’ll need to clean them up a bit and polish. A new tire and a fender will round out the front end.

This is the neck we cut off the donor motorcycle for Big Bob our VW Trike project.

I brought it up to my mentor, Type 1 Bud, and he determined that I could probably use this for the neck on my Trike. I just need to be careful trimming and careful welding so I don’t get it too hot and warped.

This neck has a bearing and race and came apart nicely after I figured out that it wasn’t as difficult as I figured it would be. I just needed to pry and tap a bit.

Who knew it could be that easy.

Now I just need to find some risers to fit 1″ handlebars rather than the smaller diameter bars.

I was surprised at how easy this cut with a jig saw…

Next Step… figure out if I can use the Neck and triple tree wth my build or if I need to have a heavier duty neck machined.
